Karl Heinrich Marx (1818–83) was a German philosopher, historian and revolutionary. He is best remembered today for The Communist Manifesto and his four-volume Das Kapital. Friedrich Engels (1820–95) was a German philosopher, historian and theorist best remembered for collaborating with Marx on The Communist Manifesto and for helping to develop theories that founded Marxism.
