Geoffrey Chaucer (c.1342–1400) was a poet. Although he wrote widely, he is remembered today for The Canterbury Tales (c.1387–1400) a cycle of linked tales told by a group of pilgrims. He is often considered the ‘father of English literature’, on account of being the first to write in the English vernacular, committing to print the language of the people.
