Then I realise: maybe I survived so I could document… So I could tell the world about the children who died of hunger, the elderly who died of heartbreak, the childhood we never got to live, and the youth we spent in tents…

The world continues to watch as Gaza is laid to waste, the news filled with broken buildings and broken bodies. Fingers point, politicians pontificate, ceasefires are dangled… bombs still fall.

But in amongst all the desolation a light shines bright, where Amira works into the night in temporary accommodation, compelled to document, to channel her pain into creativity.

A meditative yet fierce collection of work created in unthinkable hardship yet suffused with hope, Habibi, I Am Still Here is a landmark collection of poems, prose, memoir and translation from a young Palestinian writer whose words have already reached around the world.

About the author

Amira A.T. Abualhusien was born in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. During the war she has lost her father, all three of her brothers, and her home. While living in the Rafah camp with her mother and sisters, she has remained enrolled at the Islamic University of Gaza, completing her BA in Translation Studies, and has been published internationally, first with Diary From Gaza, which became the first Palestinian poetry anthology to be translated into Greek, and with Habibi, I Am Still Here, in 2027.
